New City Fellowship's B.A.S.I.C.S Program holds a hand of mercy out to a hurting community! New City Fellowship's B.A.S.I.C.S Program holds a hand of mercy out to a hurting community!

In the days immediately following the January 12, 2010 earthquake that destroyed much of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, the Tennessee Valley Presbytery Mercy Committee established a fund, "Hope for Haiti," to collect funds and assist in the relief efforts as part of its calling to proclaim and embody the Good News of Jesus.

As part of its continuing effort to encourage and equip God's people throughout the Tennessee Valley Presbytery to give of themselves to the continuing effort, the Mercy Committee is encouraging participation in the following efforts:

  • May 1-8, 2010:  R3I Petit Harpon - working with Haitian crews to build transitional shelters.  Living conditions will be challenging.  Cost $1000.
  • May 8-15, 2010: MNA Carrefour - continue work on building and begin work on El Shaddai member homes.  Cost is $1200.
  • May 12-22, 2010: work in the Central Plateau region alongside long-term Haitian missions.  Primary focus is assisting people displaced by the earthquake.  Cost is $850.
  • Throughout May: MTW Medical Teams - working in the Leogone area, medical professionals will have multiple opportunities to give of themselves and their resources through May, 2010.  Cost is $1500.
Beyond May:
  • MNA teams to the Carrefour area will be needed, including a possible team for July.
  • Petit Harpon area - the possibility of more teams depending on the need for additional shelters.
  • MTW teams still being developed, possibly focusing on the Jacmel area.
